CV of Zoi Konsta

Expertise/research field:

Zoi Konsta is a medical doctor and researcher in biomedical ethics, with a focus on gender equity in medicine, health technology ethics, and the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical practice. Her academic and professional work explores how sex and gender differences impact the development, deployment, and outcomes of medical technologies—particularly in high-risk areas such as active implantable medical devices (AIMDs). She has a strong interest in ethical and regulatory frameworks that support equitable and inclusive innovation in healthcare, and is especially engaged with the challenges of algorithmic bias in digital health.

Stations of work:

Zoi is currently contributing to the EQUIMED project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation under the NRP 83 programme. This interdisciplinary project addresses gender and sex bias in AIMD development and clinical use across Switzerland, the UK, and Germany. Within EQUIMED, she is actively involved in both empirical data collection and normative analysis, contributing to research on ethical and intersectional dimensions of digital and implantable medical technologies. Zoi is based at the Institute for Biomedical Ethics (IBMB), University of Basel, and is an active member of the EQUIMED implementation and dissemination team.
