Video "Agequake in Prison"
Find out more about the challenges of an ageing prison population in our latest video, which was created as part of the “Aging in Prison” research project.
The video Aging in Prison explores the topic from multiple perspectives, including those of prisoners and experts. While based on interview material from our research project, the film features professional actors. It sheds light on the challenges of long-term incarceration in facilities originally designed for young, able-bodied individuals with shorter stays. The video underscores key concerns related to this aging population, primarily composed of individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who often face complex medical needs, limited financial resources, and minimal support networks. Additionally, it critically examines current prison standards, assessing their effects on healthy aging, appropriate housing, and broader public safety implications.
