The IBMB is hosting the EACME Annual Conference in 2027!

EACME Flyer 2027

The Institute for Biomedical Ethics (IBMB), your host of the EACME 2027 Annual Conference, is looking forward to welcoming you to Basel from 2 to 4 September 2027.

Resilience, Justice, and Empowerment: Bioethics in Times of Crisis

The conference will explore how bioethics, and we as bioethicists, can and should respond to interconnected crises, growing societal and clinical pressures, emerging technologies, and persistent inequalities. Together, we will examine how bioethics can strengthen resilience, advance justice, and empower vulnerable populations and those working under pressure.

Topics will include the ethical implications of climate change, war, pandemics, displacement, and economic insecurity; decision-making under uncertainty and scarcity; moral distress and resource allocation; the risks and possibilities of AI; and the representation and empowerment of populations that remain insufficiently heard in mainstream bioethics.

Subthemes of the EACME 2027 Conference:

(this list is preliminary and not exclusive: we also welcome abstracts on other topics in bioethics)

  • Crises, Threats, Inequalities and the Role of Bioethicists
  • Clinical Ethics under Pressure: Dilemmas and Ways Forward
  • Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Risks, Responsibilities and Opportunities
  • Emerging Challenges, Vulnerable Populations, and Activism
