Investigators and researchers met on the 4th and 5th of June in Zurich to present and discuss the results of all research conducted under NRP77. Each group was given just 10 minutes to present their most significant findings and recommendations. The EXPLaiN project presented 4 significant recommendations to the steering committee:

  1. That key data managers need clarification and education on when and how healthcare data can be accessed and transferred.
  2. That clear guidance needs to be issued to health care professionals on when and how to inform patients of AI’s involvement in their diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Explaining the use of AI need not include exhaustive explanations, but can be context-specific and sufficient for specific cases and
  4. Medical AI guidelines should not attempt to provide over-arching guidance for all situations, but should instead focus on specific situations, keeping human factors, such as empathy, in mind.
