Dr. Christopher Poppe, former doctoral student at the IBMB, was awarded the 2025 Excellent Papers in Neuroscience Award (EPNA) for his work "Brain–Computer Interfaces, Completely Locked-In State in Neurodegenerative Diseases, and End-of-Life Decisions" (Poppe & Elger, 2024).
The ERA-NET NEURON initiative aims to recognize outstanding and exceptional scientific publications in the field of neuroscience by early-career researchers. The call for papers with thematic focus on Ethics, Legal and Social Aspects (ELSA) of Neuroscience received applications from 24 partner countries. These applications were evaluated by the NEURON partner organizations, and the final decision was made by NEURON Call Steering Committee.
Dr. Poppe will speak as an “Excellent Paper in Neuroscience” special lecturer at the International Neuroethics Society (INS) conference in Stanford Lucca and Stellenbosch, Italy, from April 15 to 17, 2026.
