CV of Andrea Martani

Expertise/research field: Andrea is a postdoctoral researcher in biomedical ethics, specialized on health law, data protection law and comparative legal analysis. His career so far has focused on investigating the relationship between law and life sciences and the impact of legislation on the organization of the healthcare system and the delivery of healthcare services. In 2018 he graduated in European and Transnational Comparative Law from the University of Trento (Italy) with a Master’s Thesis analyzing the legal and ethical issues raised by the provision of experimental treatment to terminally-ill patients. In 2021 he defended his PhD thesis, which focused on the interaction between data protection law and the biomedical field in Switzerland. Over the years he has gained international experience by studying at the School of Law of the University of Reading (UK) and at the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Law of the KU Leuven (BE).

Stations of work: Andrea is currently working on an SNF funded project concerning the ethical and social implications of parenthood at advanced age, and he is responsible for the research module analyzing the legislation on Assisted Reproductive Technology. He is also an ethics advisor with respect to data protection issue for an external research project dealing with machine learning in precision medicine. Moreover, he is a member of the EHCL research community.
