CV of Christopher Poppe
Expertise: Christopher Poppe is a PhD Candidate at the Institute for Biomedical Ethics (IBMB) at the University of Basel, Switzerland. He holds a Master in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (MSc, 2016) from the University of Kassel, Germany, and subsequently studied philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of York, UK. In the long run, he looks to finish his philosophical education with a Master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Hagen.
Research: At IBMB, Christopher works on the supportive needs of informal caregivers of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In a qualitative interview study in German-speaking Switzerland, caregiver needs are assessed to improve support services, and thus alleviate subjective caregiver burden and quality of life of both carers and patients.
In general, Christopher is interested in palliative care, methodology of biomedical ethics, as well as ethics of care, broadly construed. Whilst studying psychology, he was educated in quantitative as well as qualitative empirical methods.
Stations of work: Before joining IBMB, Christopher worked as a student research assistant at the Institute of Philosophy, History of Literature, Science, and Technology at Technical University Berlin, and at Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences. As a psychologist, he worked at an e-mental health start-up and as a caseworker for child protective services of the City of Kassel, Germany.
