Short Biography

Fabrice Jotterand, Ph.D., M.A. is Senior Researcher at the Institute for Biomedical Ethics, University of Basel, and Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities and Director of the Graduate Program in Bioethics at the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI, USA. His scholarship includes numerous articles, editorials, book chapters, and reviews as well as lectures on topics including the use of neurotechnologies in psychiatry, moral enhancement, neurotechnologies and human identity, medical professionalism, and moral and political philosophy. He has edited four books: The Philosophy of Medicine Reborn: A Pellegrino Reader with H.T. Engelhardt (University of Notre Dame Press); Emerging Conceptual, Ethical, and Policy Issues in Bionanotechnology (Springer); The Development of Bioethics in the United States with J.R. Garrett and D.C. Ralston (Springer) and his most recent, Cognitive Enhancement: Ethical and Policy Implications in International Perspectives with Veljko Dubljevic (Oxford University Press). He has currently another edited volume under contract with Oxford University Press (Assistive Technologies for Dementia Care, with B. Elger, R. Wangmo, and M. Ienca). He is also working on a book that focuses on an examination of the ethical, clinical, and policy implications of the use of neurotechnologies for the detection, treatment, and prevention of personal disorders such as psychopathy.

Prof. Jotterand is also the editor of the new book series entitled Advances in Neuroethics (series editors: V. Dubljević, F. Jotterand, R. Jox, E. Racine) that addresses how advances in brain sciences can be attended to for the benefit of patients and society at large.
